ABOUT US

Kindness that welcomes, academics that inspire, education that nourishes the whole child.

Since 1956, North Star Christian School has been educating students to participate in the mission of Christ and extend His redemptive ways to our community and world. Based in Hermon, Maine, and serving the greater Bangor area, we offer a fully-accredited, Christ-centered education for students from 1st through 8th grade.

At our core, we believe that the aim of true education is the restoration of God’s image in humankind, and everything we do aligns with this vision as we seek to form and educate children spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.

We are a part of the Seventh-day Adventist school system, which is the second largest Christian (and largest Protestant) school system in the world, enrolling nearly two million students in over 150 countries worldwide. This provides us with strong academic support, standards, and curriculum, empowering us to pursue academic excellence in all subjects and disciplines.

Our program strives to keep Jesus the focus of all we do, making the Scriptural truth that “God is love” the foundation of every part of our curriculum. We stress the importance of how special each student is in God’s eyes and look at how each student was created so uniquely. The principles of Jesus, such as love and kindness, are our guides.

Why choose North Star Christian school?

  • A small - though growing - school provides each student with individual attention and care.

  • We take bullying seriously and make sure that every student has a safe environment in which to learn and grow.

  • We offer the best of both worlds: strong academics, with a solid Jesus-centered foundation.

  • Our students annually score higher than their peers in standardized testing.

  • Our location allows for lots of creative outdoor play - like sledding, building forts in the woods and igloos in the snow.

  • Our size means we can take plenty of fun and exciting field trips - like ice skating, swimming, and trips to the apple orchards.

  • Our school is more than a school - it’s a family where each student makes lasting connections with teachers, students, and the families they come from.

  • Being part of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist faith community, which is the most diverse Christian denomination in America, provides students with the opportunity to learn amongst a diverse student body and encounter various cultures that much of the rest of Maine’s demographic landscape often doesn’t provide.
